Description

This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project targeted a highly significant issue of low cervical cancer screening rates among women aged 21 to 65 in an outpatient primary care clinic in Maryland. The subject of this project, cervical cancer was one of the challenges faced by the healthcare globally. The goal was to implement the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines and create awareness such that the screening recommendations are followed (Schad et al., 2021). The project was a 10-week program that incorporated the education of healthcare professionals, the development of patient educational materials, patient education, and teamwork with other healthcare institutions. To ensure systemic implementation of the project, the theoretical framework that guided the project execution was The Knowledge to Action Theory. Short-term and long-term objectives were devised to allow for periodic evaluation of the project trajectory and outcomes. Objectives of the project included raising awareness among healthcare providers as well as developing patient educational resources and creating a collaborative network with other healthcare institutions. Several measures were used to make sure that information was disseminated to a large audience to enhance learning, knowledge and motivate healthcare professionals to employ evidence-based practices. The project's first goal was to disseminate findings in local, national, and international conferences as well as seminars on cancer, nursing practice conferences, and primary care settings. The project also sought to leverage the digital platform's rapid and extensive coverage of the internet to reach patients, caregivers, medical professionals, and the public globally. As a result, digital channels such as blogs, social media, and healthcare websites were used to spread knowledge through endorsements, success stories, and useful advice on cervical cancer screening.
