Description
Inadequate neuromuscular blockade assessment and the associated potential residual neuromuscular blockade represent relevant disparities in anesthesia practice. This literature review investigates the current state of research regarding neuromuscular monitoring modalities. The utilization of search terms entered into a search engine and multiple databases revealed preliminary articles for review. The reviewers critiqued the articles meeting this review's inclusion criteria, leading to the organization of the selected articles according to identified themes. Overall findings suggest the relative superiority of quantitative neuromuscular monitoring compared to qualitative or no neuromuscular monitoring. Variations in study outcome foci made the determination of the superior quantitative device challenging. The findings indicate the need for research involving larger sample sizes and higher levels of evidence studies.
