Description

The purpose of this quantitative study is to understand the relationship between a OneStop Shop unit and student retention rates at Texas public and private higher education institutions. This study entitled “Exploring the Relationship between a One-Stop Shop and Student Retention” seeks to explore the unit in which brings together the business of being a student, a One-Stop Shop, and its potential impact on retention. This quantitative research study explores the relationship between Texas public and private universities with a One-Stop Shop unit and corresponding retention rates to see if there is a statistical difference. This study is significant to show that the One-Stop Shop unit and other academic support services directly impact retention and can make substantial progress in higher education persistence and graduation rates. The literature is reviewed to focus on the One-Stop Shop unit, enrollment management, retention, and student success methods. A quantitative method of non-experimental correlational analysis will be used in calculating relationships utilizing the data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) and comparing it to three research questions. A sample of ten institutions were pulled utilizing both private and public institutions within Texas to evaluate differences between a One-Stop Shop unit and the institutions retention and graduation rates. Recommendations for future research include the populations utilized in the statistical calculations, offices represented within the One-Stop Shop units for student service, and assumed best practices of the One-Stop Shop unit. Through collaboration of the literature review and statistical calculations, a greater understanding of the relationship between a One-Stop Shop unit and retention rates will be found.
