Description
Introduction: Airway management is a critical component of anesthesia practice. Anesthesia providers have a variety of intubation techniques at their disposal. Obese patients pose challenges for these providers. This executive summary focuses on the impact of patient-specific automated reminders on video laryngoscopy (VL) utilization in adult obese patients compared to direct laryngoscopy (DL) based on the patient’s body mass index (BMI). The intubation technique chosen by the anesthesia provider can significantly impact patient care during the induction and intubation period. Utilizing the most effective intubation technique is essential for ensuring safe and effective care. This literature review aims to explore current research comparing DL to VL in the obese population and the outcomes of applying patient-specific automated reminders to gain clinical practice insight and guide future anesthesia practices in adult obese airway management.
