Description
Pharmaceutical grade cannabidiol (CBD) oil has been considered for treatment of seizure disorders in numerous anecdotes. The objective of this study was to determine the role CBD oil has as an adjuvant therapy alongside one the mainstay anti-epileptic drugs (AEDs). An evidencebased medicine systematic review was conducted by three researchers that contained an independent and in duplicate search and review process. Specified inclusion criteria were applied with a quality assessment to narrow the search results. Upon group consensus of the included studies a data extraction tool was utilized to perform a qualitative analysis. Three systematic reviews were analyzed, and their respective data were extracted by hand by the three researchers. Throughout the selected studies CBD oil alongside AEDs were shown to reduce seizure rates by 50% in some populations. These results demonstrated the potential CBD oil has as adjuvant therapy, but more focused research is needed to determine its efficacy in select seizure disorder populations.
