Description
The purpose of this qualitative grounded theory study is to analyze the potential lack of coaching opportunities for Black women executives in the corporate sector. For the utility of the study, the benefits of coaching engagements for Black women executives will generally be defined as insufficient coaching opportunities for Black women executives working within the corporate sector in the insurance industry. Several research papers exist on the benefits of coaching; however, there remain a lack of discussion on coaching from a DEI perspective, specifically as it relates to Black women. The research uses qualitative content analysis and allows the focus to remain on the thoughts and feelings of participants providing responses based on real-world experiences. The study primarily uses data extracted from the American Community Survey (ACS), supplemented with data from the Institute for Women’s Policy Research (IWPR), and focuses on the experiences of Black women in the workplace, home, and school. The large sample size includes data on women disaggregated by race, ethnicity, and age. The study uses the 2014 data, which is the most recent, and combines years 2012 through 2014. The study analyses case studies to understand the experiences of Black women in social environments. The study also uses case studies when examining the current growth trend of organizations promoting executive coaching for corporate leaders. The case studies focus on the return of investment and expectations of executive coaching.
