Description
Objective: The purpose of this systematic review is to determine if chiropractic care improves patient’s headaches and migraines compared to patients who do not seek chiropractic care. Background: Five percent of people around the world experience headaches daily or nearly every day, which can have a negative effect on their quality of life. Although there are known adverse effects of chiropractic care and headache guidelines do not list chiropractic care as an evidence-based treatment, chiropractic guidelines list headaches as a condition that chiropractors can treat. Methods: PubMed and Medline databases were used to search for articles including chiropractic care or treatment, and headaches or migraines. Results: 5 studies were included in this systematic review, which were all randomized controlled trials. The results indicated there was no statistically significant difference in headache outcomes for patients seeking care with chiropractors than patients not seeking chiropractic care. Conclusion: Chiropractic care in the treatment of headaches and migraines should be further investigated before clinicians recommend chiropractic care to their patients suffering from headaches and migraines.
