Description

The purpose of the quantitative study is to relate the value employees place on opinions being heard to employee’s job satisfaction. Organizations struggle to retain effective employees, impacting the bottom line and the organization’s culture. Job satisfaction and employee retention are vital factors that drive organizational success. One of servant leadership’s key tenets is active listening. Listening to employees may serve as an indicator of future job satisfaction and employee retention. The Department of Health and Human Services employees taking part in the 2023 Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey serves as the study’s sample group. In total, 57,052 respondents participated in the survey distributed to employees via email. Responses to two questions were considered: "My supervisor listens to what I have to say" and "Considering everything, how satisfied are you with your job?" The study employed quantitative, correlational research design to examine the relationship between supervisor listening and job satisfaction. The findings of the Spearman rank correlation analysis found a moderate positive correlation (rs = 0.5223, p<.001) between active listening by supervisors and employee job satisfaction supporting the alternative hypothesis.
