Description
The purpose of this mixed-methods action-research study is to explore why teachers lack the confidence and training in integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) instruction which limits students’ 21st century skills for Catlettsburg Elementary School in rural Tennessee. The guiding theory for this study is the constructivist theory which is defined as using collaboration to gain knowledge while building upon prior knowledge. Professional Learning Communities (PLC) which will use Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) will be the main focus of the project. The main research question is: how do current PLC structures influence teachers’ confidence and ability to implement constructivist STEAM practices? Data will be collected using focus groups and interviews for qualitative data analysis and benchmark and end of grade testing for quantitative data points.
