Description
The purpose of this mixed-methods action research study is to examine the relationship between AI literacy and cross-functional collaboration among mid-level managers at HealthCo, a not-forprofit healthcare payer. AI literacy will be defined as the knowledge, skills, and awareness that enable managers to understand AI capabilities, critically evaluate applications, translate AI potential into business value, lead change, and ensure ethical oversight. The study will be guided by Organizational Learning Theory and Upper Echelons Theory, which together see AI literacy as both an individual skill and an organizational factor influencing decisions, collaboration, and AI implementation outcomes. The research questions will explore: What is the current level of AI literacy among mid-level managers across functional, critical, and sociocultural dimensions, and how does it impact cross-functional collaboration and the success of AI implementation in healthcare? The sample will include managers who regularly work with clinical and technical professionals. Data collection will combine an AI Literacy Assessment Survey with semistructured interviews to identify literacy gaps and their effects on collaboration. Quantitative analysis will measure literacy levels across dimensions, qualitative analysis will identify patterns in barriers, enablers, and preferred interventions. Managers are expected to have gaps in AI literacy, especially in critical and sociocultural dimensions, correlating with less effective collaboration. Findings will inform targeted interventions to improve organizational readiness for AI adoption.
